According to a statement from the Philippine police, the protests continued for about 50 minutes in front of the embassy, with demonstrators not only spraying paint on the embassy, but also the police. The students' union, chairman of the national, silk, neville says, the purpose of this meeting is to to the United States and around the world show that "young people never welcome us military base in the Philippines to return to the Philippines".
"As young people in the Philippines, we will not compromise our future and our sovereignty to the American imperialists." EDCA, she said, was against the Philippine constitution and "clearly demonstrates that our government has given its sovereignty to the United States, and that they can do anything in the Philippines." "The United States and the aquino administration may use a variety of sweet words to whitewash the peace, but they cannot fool the younger generation and the people of the Philippines." "Said Charles barnez.
12 this month, the Supreme Court ruled that America "to strengthen defense cooperation agreement" (EDCA) conforms to the constitution, the decision has caused strong dissatisfaction with the filipinos, they have been gathered for a protest outside the us embassy.
The EDCA, which caused a huge shock, was signed in 2014 but has not been approved by the public.
On April 28, 2014, the Philippine defense secretary and U.S. ambassador to the Philippines mark goldberg signed the 10-year agreement hours before U.S. President barack Obama's visit. This protocol is based on the mutual defense treaty with the military access protocol, on the basis of further allow U.S. forces at a particular location "agreement", and more flexible to use the Philippine military agreed to the military base, ports and military airports, as well as outside the nuclear defense equipment configuration in the Philippines, but not the Philippines set up a new military base.
The agreement stipulates that the United States "shall not have a permanent military presence or military base in the Philippines" and can only use the military facilities designated by the Philippines after being invited by the Philippine government.
The enhanced defense cooperation agreement is said to be shorter than the U.S. initial request, but the two countries can negotiate a renewal after the agreement expires. The agreement allows the United States to deploy additional soldiers on the "temporary and changing principle", and the U.S. military will also have the right to deploy fighter jets and reconnaissance aircraft to bases in the Philippines.
"We are considering opening a base in the northern Luzon and magsayeople to allow sufficient space for us military use." The new agreement also allows U.S. forces to stockpile humanitarian equipment and supplies in the Philippines in response to a sudden disaster, according to military sources in the Philippines.
Some media pointed out that at present foreign armies reside is not allowed in the Philippine constitution, but after the signing of the new agreement, through the use of military bases, the deployment will be increased, so as to realize again "troops".
In fact, the United States had multiple military bases and a large number of troops in the Philippines. On this basis, a military agreement was signed. But it was repealed after a few years because of popular opposition.
In 1992, the United States closed its last military base in the Philippines. In 1998, the two countries signed a "visit to the military agreement", allowing the two militaries to hold joint military exercises, allowing U.S. warships to dock at the Philippine port and the U.S. military's landing.
The two defense agreement in the home also sparked discontent, May 5, 2014, a large number of protestors to the defense department, they said the enhanced defense cooperation agreement will result in a permanent in the United States in the Philippines.
The Philippines "new patriotic union" secretary-general renato reyes said in a statement, the United States will strengthen defense cooperation agreement between the two countries as a chance to further troops in the Philippines, and intends to permanent bases in the Philippines.
Reyes stressed that "the agreement on enhanced defense cooperation between the two countries will lead to the presence of foreign troops in the Philippine territory."
