据了解，苏哈桑来自印度南部泰米尔纳德邦的马杜赖市，目前是三峡大学临床医学专业大五学生，还有3个月就要毕业了。他第一次接触中医是在他18岁时：看到一名佝偻着腰的患者背后扎了好多小银针，他感到很奇怪，就去问医生。医生解释是用中医针灸的方式给患者治疗腰痛，苏哈桑对此满腹狐疑。而一周后，他再次见到这名患者时，对方已经痊愈了。从此，苏哈桑被中医的魅力所吸引。
一年后，苏哈桑来到三峡大学求学。“之所以选择留学中国，也是想更多地了解中医文化。”苏哈桑说，留学期间，他也看过一些中医书籍，“还不太知道如何应用这些知识”，于是他想到了来市中医医院拜师。“家乡很多人看病都会选中医。”苏哈桑说，可马杜赖全市只有两三名中医，治疗的手段也仅有号脉和针灸，而像推拿、拔罐，还有中草药等在当地都是空白，他希望把中医的这些治疗带回去。
