A group of Lao students live in mengla county, xishuangbanna dai autonomous prefecture, southwest China's yunnan province. "My parents do business in xishuangbanna, and they know China better," said Mimi, a girl from luang prabang province in Laos, who was a classmate of her. They arranged for me to study Chinese in China. When I first came to mengla, I didn't know any Chinese. After two years of study, I can now communicate with Chinese fluently. Mimi plans to return to Laos when she graduates next year. She says she has more job opportunities in China than other Laotian students.
Like Mimi, suban, from pojo province in Laos, was also sent to China to study after graduating from high school in Laos. He said he would return to China to do business with China.
The cheerful Lao girl, rock ni, has a Chinese name zhang xiaoyan, she smiled and said: "this name is given by the teacher, I like it very much. My uncle and the Chinese co-operated a factory. I learned Chinese, so I can go back and translate.
She also has a Chinese name, li dongmei. She said that because her mother and Chinese people learn to cut rubber, she would speak some yunnan dialect, but she did not know Chinese characters, so she let her go to mengla to learn Chinese.
Suban's compatriot annu is preparing for HSK Chinese proficiency test, and will go to kunming to continue learning Chinese after graduation next year. "I will go to Beijing for further study," he told reporters in Beijing, pointing to two words from a foreign language textbook written by Peking University press.
This batch of Laotian high school graduates, all of whom pay their own expenses to learn Chinese in mengla, although they need RMB 4250 per semester for tuition and room and board, but they think it is worth learning. With the completion of the china-asean free trade area, China and Laos will have more and more trade and cultural exchanges, and Laos needs a large number of talents who know Chinese.
The Lao students' teacher yiwang, who graduated from the university in 2008, began taking the class of 11 Laotian students. When we asked the teacher about the situation in which Lao students had just arrived in China, the teacher wept bitterly. In 2001, mengla county vocational and technical high school formally enrolled Laotian students to study Chinese, which was full-time for three years. 在我国西南边陲——云南省西双版纳傣族自治州勐腊县生活着一群老挝留学生。19岁的姑娘吆玛妮在中国已经学习两年了，她现在最想去北京旅游，因为在语文课本中她读到北京居庸关是万里长城中最壮观的景色。
9月10日教师节，我们来到了勐腊县职业技术高级中学，采访了在这里学习的老挝学生。
来自老挝琅勃拉邦省的女孩咪咪是吆玛妮的同学，她告诉记者，“我的父母在西双版纳做生意，对中国比较了解。他们安排我到中国学汉语。我刚来勐腊时，一点汉语都不懂。通过两年的学习，我现在已经能比较流利地和中国人交流了。”咪咪明年毕业后打算回老挝当翻译，她说自己有了在中国学汉语的经历，能比其他老挝同学有更多的就业机会。
和咪咪一样，来自老挝波乔省的苏班也是在老挝高中毕业后，父母安排他到中国学习。他说将来学成回国，可以和中国做生意。
吆玛妮也有个中国名字，叫李冬梅。她说因为妈妈跟中国人学习割橡胶，会说些云南话，但不认识中国字，于是妈妈就让她到勐腊来学汉语。
苏班的同乡安怒新正在准备HSK中国汉语水平考试，等明年毕业后要去昆明继续学习汉语。他拿出北京大学出版社编写的对外汉语课本，指着北京两个字告诉记者，“以后我还要去北京深造”。
这批老挝高中毕业生，都是自费来勐腊学习汉语，尽管每学期需要4250元人民币的学费和食宿费用，但他们认为是学有所值。随着中国与东盟自贸区的建成，中国和老挝将有越来越多的商贸、文化等往来，老挝需要大量懂汉语的人才。
这批老挝学生的老师依旺为，2008年大学老挝语专业刚毕业，就开始带这个有11名老挝学生的班级。当看到老挝学生用流利的汉语与记者交流时，这位年轻的中国女教师眼里充满了柔情，不断地鼓励着她的学生：“要大胆地表达。”
当我们向依老师询问起老挝学生刚到中国学习的情况时，依老师心疼地流下了眼泪。老挝学生京铜说：“我刚来中国时，连吃饭也不知道怎么表达，是依老师从拼音教起，还不时用老挝语一句一句教我们学习汉语。现在我不仅能听懂会说汉语，还能用汉语写作文了。”
苏班抢着告诉记者，“为了让我们尽快掌握汉语，依老师想出了一些好办法，组织演讲、翻译、朗诵、出板报、唱中国歌曲等，让我们快乐地学习汉语。我的汉语水平进步很快。”咪咪在一旁接着说，“依老师在生活上也很关心我们。刚来中国时我就生病了，依老师特别照顾我，她待我们像亲人一样。”
依老师介绍说，京铜是班里的学习委员。京铜拿出自己的作文让记者看，只见作文写道：“爷爷让我来中国学习。我在学习课文《碧螺春》时，我知道了绿茶。学校放假，我买了绿茶，带回去泡给爷爷奶奶喝，他们都说，中国茶好喝。”
据了解，随着中老边境贸易的不断发展，2000年老方提出，希望云南省西双版纳傣族自治州勐腊县为老挝培养汉语翻译人才。勐腊县是中国大陆最南端的边境口岸县，是云南省扩大开放走向东盟的桥头堡。2001年，勐腊县职业技术高级中学正式招收老挝学生学习汉语，学制为全日制3年，除了学习汉语外，还开设了计算机等课程。
就在记者告别时，这群可爱的老挝学生说：“中国老师是最好的老师。祝依老师节日快乐。”依老师和她的老挝学生紧紧地抱在一起。一股暖流涌上心头，我们被这一幕中老师生的深情厚谊深深感动了。(田晓明 赵珊)
