International students integrate into the transformation of identity.

Chen fuping: associate professor, xiamen university.

I think there are pros and cons to the "huddle" phenomenon. From a good point of view: first, it helps to adapt to the local environment. In fact, is not only a group of Chinese students, a lot of sociological studies have shown that almost most of the early immigrant groups to adapt to a new social environment, there is the phenomenon of the "bulk". Previous students can provide many newcomers to adapt to the environment of information and help, such as study, life etc, these are all international students "capital", can be in a strange environment early to reduce a lot of pressure. Second, it helps to gain psychological support and recognition. Language and cultural barriers may be many students have to face the main problem of the early, and left in the domestic circle of relatives and classmates, loneliness may be many students need to face the reality of the problem. Relative terms, as a country's international students, in the relatively small language and cultural barriers, psychological comfort and identity can be obtained through communication, this is the very important reason for the "circle".

On the downside. First of all, in the long run, the existence of "circles" may not help students to truly integrate into the school environment. Integration is a deep concept, which is to change the identity of "I am a foreign student" gradually to "I am the student of this school". If international students only associate with students from their own country, the rapid progress of language learning is not good, and it is also bad for understanding the local culture. Secondly, the university is a kind of study for students to enter the society. If they only associate with foreign students, this will have some negative effects on the future career development. Especially for those of you who plan to stay abroad, you will have to learn to socialize with more people in the future.

Study abroad to be brave enough to cross the circle.

Jin ran: marketing director of the education group.

First, you need to clear that foreign students social "circle" phenomenon not only appeared in the Chinese students, many countries such as Japan, South Korea's students also have their own social circle, it is inevitable and unavoidable a cross-cultural adaptation caused by common phenomenon, can't simply use the pros and cons to evaluate this kind of phenomenon.

Chinese students abroad to form social circle, may provide some useful subject to international students, the local information in a timely manner, studying abroad can help them to fully prepared, can also help them quickly adapt to the local students, life gives reference to the experience in study and life. In addition, the social circle of Chinese students can also play a role in spreading Chinese culture, such as inviting foreign students to celebrate traditional Chinese festivals and eating together.

However, if Chinese students enter the Chinese circle in the hope of avoiding the communication barriers caused by language and culture, it will obviously do more harm than good. Can not deny the fact that some Chinese students more or less will have such a mentality, that not only waste the abroad experience different cultures, different way of thinking, also can't really improve language ability, to acquire knowledge in order to realize the real purpose of study abroad.

Therefore, it is advisable for Chinese students to study abroad to objectively understand the phenomenon of social "circle", not to avoid, not to indulge. After going abroad, we should have the courage to step out of the circle. We should have more contact with students from other countries, learn more about the culture of the country and the way of thinking, and cultivate an international vision to make it worthwhile.

Unassimilated local culture is a waste.

Kohler: now I teach in shenzhen and I teach in American high school.

I think it's a pity if Chinese students go abroad to study abroad, but only with their own students. It is a waste to study abroad and to study in a foreign country as far as possible. If you do not understand or adapt to the new environment, you do not want to integrate into the new culture.

In my opinion, a Chinese student in the environment of the study abroad destination country is not enough, or into the local culture, Chinese students should be encouraged and school students to make more friends in other countries at the same time.

Look at the pros and cons of social networking in many ways.

Suf: a psychologist.

In my state of California and Arizona, the phenomenon of "coterization" is relatively obvious, and it has both advantages and disadvantages.

Psychologically, it's good. In an unfamiliar environment, people have no sense of control. When they go abroad, they will have more psychological security and sense of identity if they are with people in their own country. This situation exists not only in Chinese students, but also in European and American countries.

In addition, in many parts of the country, the international student organization will provide some services for the students, such as transportation and accommodation. The care of compatriots makes them more willing to "huddle for warmth".

There are also drawbacks to "community". I observe that although students live abroad, they are under Chinese culture. The purpose of studying abroad is to learn foreign culture, technology, and the circle of life style can make the effect of studying abroad greatly reduced.

The "Chinese circle" has an advantage.

Mark: head of Australia department, kai tak BBB.

Foreign students have different levels, and most of them are able to mingle with foreign students. Adapting to a slightly weaker group of Chinese students will not be a barrier to academic and communication skills, and will also help students improve their academic performance. The phenomenon of "community" is not very good, but it is also common. After all, Chinese students have many advantages.

The phenomenon that Chinese students are "circumlocution" is that the advantages and disadvantages depend on the specific situation. If you are in the school, it is not very helpful for your academic promotion. But at work, in foreign countries, it is very useful to recommend them through a circle of friends. Every student has his or her overseas circles, then every Chinese students can together again, such a transfer, their own overseas network is more and more big, at the same time circle on employment quality of Chinese students have good help you in your life.

The advantages and disadvantages of the circle cannot be summed up in a word.

Lin ting ting: Chinese students studying interactive digital media in Ireland.

The school I attended did not find out how serious the "circle" of Chinese students was. All the Chinese students around me have Chinese friends and foreign friends. They don't choose their nationality as the basis for choosing friends.

Even if there is a phenomenon of "circumlocution", it is not enough to say whether it is good or bad. This is a social choice made by individuals based on their own special circumstances, and each person's situation is different, and what everyone wants is different. To talk about whether it is good or bad, it must be based on a set of preset standards for the pros and cons. But each individual has a different view of what is good for it and what is bad for it. It can only be said that the selection of the existence of "circle" by an individual must have the reasons behind it, and the reasons are not necessarily Shared.

The Chinese community is lonely.

Cece: I studied at Cambridge university.

The proportion of foreign friends in your social circle will be more than half, for example, the local people will choose to be roommates, and they will often participate in local cultural and recreational activities. After all, most of us choose to study abroad in the hope of experiencing the foreign culture deeply, so we have great enthusiasm for making local friends. For the international students around me, the "huddle" phenomenon is not as serious as it seems.

However, the Chinese community is also an important part of international students' life. Especially when you're a new comer, everyone will spontaneously help them integrate into the local life. Veteran students also introduce new people to their local foreign friends. The Chinese community can act as "family", and people can share all kinds of resources and information.

Integration is not assimilation

Yao: studying in Spain.

In Spain, locals are used to speaking Catalan, and language barriers cause communication difficulties. But then the Spaniard, who spoke English through contact, slowly melted into their circle. My interaction with local students made me understand the local culture more deeply, and they persevered in the pursuit of their dream, and I was deeply impressed by the defense of moral law in the deep heart.

The integration I pursue is to learn more about the local culture, join the local life circle, and be accepted by the local people. But integration doesn't mean assimilation, it can be tried and experienced, but it doesn't have to be forced to change to fit in. I feel that we should maintain national pride, be humble, actively share Chinese culture, and foreign friends will be awe-inspiring to you and your country. At the same time, we should respect the local culture and give praise to its essence.
