Indian Media: More Foreign Students Choose to Start Businesses in China

India Times article, originally titled "China has increased the job options for international students", was published on August 7,2018. China has surpassed Britain and the United States as an increasingly popular destination for foreign students. Now, in order to make itself more attractive, China has added some incentives to make it easier for international students to start their own businesses in China.
The Chinese government has been exploring ways to allow international students in Beijing and Shanghai to work part-time or internship outside of school on condition that they get approval first - from their academic institutions and immigration authorities. In Shanghai, a pilot policy allows newly graduated international students to practice or start their own businesses in innovation zones two years after graduation. Thanks to such policy changes, China has received more Indian students than Britain. In 2016, there were 18 171 India students studying in China in India and 18015 in Britain.
According to a scholar from Renmin University of China, there is a growing demand for international students to apply for internships in order to seize the opportunities of rapid development in China. Thomas Linnett, an Australian student, said: "China is developing quite fast. Every day, innovative industries are emerging. I want to seize this growth opportunity and develop with China." Wang Huiyao, director of the Center for Research on China and Globalization, an independent think tank, said it would be wise for China to expand similar entrepreneurial employment opportunities more widely because they would revitalize China's labor force development. "With domestic companies expanding overseas, foreign employees can bring unique advantages," he said. It is logical that these graduates want to put what they have learned into practice.
When this decade began, China had not been noticed by most international students. Now, China is becoming more and more attractive to international students. As Maria Matai, head of MM Consulting, said, "Studying abroad from medical specialty is now expanding into engineering. We meet a large number of Indian students inquiring about computer science courses at Chinese universities." (Translated by Sheraja Nerakandan, Chen Yi)
